- Description
- Horse and trap standing on platform ferry at edge of wide river with houses on far bank, hill with fields and woods beyond. On the ferry isthe passenger is Lord Gloag of Kincairne, his coachman, MacLaren, and ferry operator, James Ballantine. Wooden pier, on wheels, forms access ramp to ferry on each side of the river. Ferry composed of two clinker built long boats supporting a wooden platform with rails on the sides. Ferry is pulled across the river by an iron wheel on the ferry winding a chain anchored on each bank.
