Franki Raffles was a feminist social documentary photographer. She was based in Scotland but also travelled widely, photographing women at work and in their everyday lives. Her death in 1994 at the age of 39 came just as her work and reputation was coming to wide public attention.

In collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University and with the full support of Franki Raffles’ family, the University aims to compile a systematic catalogue of her work and to organise an exhibition of selected photographs which will begin the process of assessing her career, celebrate her contribution to photography in Scotland and contribute to the wider understanding of social documentary and feminist photography.
