Full face studio portrait of a man looking through a rustic frame, resting his arms on the frame and holding a clay pipe. The man is wearing a dark suit and has a large floppy bow tie. The walls of the building (summerhouse?) are carefully covered in moss and ivy draped round parts of the window frame. The frame is carved or moulded out of one piece. There is a geranium in a pot on a small octagonal table in the foreground. Image mounted on page engraved with sprigs of mistletoe.
